How to install a garage door latch. With the latch assembly in place slide the door handle with the attached cylinder into place. To hold the level in place tape it to the section. You ll need a helping hand on the other side of the door to help run the lock through to the other side. Avoid damage to the screws by using a hand screwdriver. Check that the new latch plate fits the recessed area and is flush with the surface of the door. In some cases door latch plate mortises might need to be cut or enlarged.
Install a new door lock and door knob by inserting the latch through the hole for the new parts. Remove the two screws from the latch plate on the edge of the door and remove the latch from the opening. The door must be level even if the floor isn t so use shims under the section to level it. Install the new lock according to the manufacturer s instructions.
It must line up with the holes in the latch assembly to function properly. Attach the bolt and pin with screws. Pull the handle away from the face of the door and spray a generous amount of lubricant on the inner. Insert the new latch into the opening with the tapered side facing the direction you will push the door to close it.
