Installing A Metal Roof End Lap

Installing a metal roof end lap. Use your neoprene washer head screws to secure the metal to the sheathing. Panel installation should begin at the gable end of the roof opposite the prevailing rain bearing wind this will provide added assurance against wind driven rain being forced under the laps. Place the leading edge of the first panel along this line. Make sure that the screws are all aligned evenly as you will be able to see them from the ground if they are.
How to lap metal roofing. Lay the panels on the ground the way you want them to be on the roof. You are essentially sealing off the metal roof with this flashing and you need to make sure that is securely fastened. The panels overlap allowing water to flow from one panel to the next without being able to penetrate the area under the roofing panel.
20 minimum overlap of the roll end. Align the first metal roofing panel so that it overlaps the edging by 1 2 to 3 4 of an inch and is square to the roof. 6 minimum overlap of the higher course over the lower course vertical. For exposed fasteners avoid over tightening the fastener.
Be sure the larger edge is laid so that the small edge of the next panel will overlap it. Place the first screw. 12 minimum overlap of the roll end. Tear the tape off at the start of the seam and begin taping again on the opposite side of the metal sheet.
Space the screws about 12 in 30 cm apart. Install the roofing screws vertically along each rib in the panel. A basic rule of thumb for installing metal roofing is that the piece of roofing higher up on the slope should always overlap the one below it. 4 apply a generous bead of waterproof roof caulk to both edges of every 6 inch wide.
This helps in setting up the lap of the panels. Follow manufacturer s instructions for the sealant application. This helps to prevent water infiltration. The eave flashing or edging is just the steel metal strips used to cover the entire perimeter of the roof.
Measure one panel width in from the roof edge. You can use 1 inch nails for the installation of eave flashing. At this point chalk a line from ridge to eave. Synthetic metal roofing underlayment installation is no more complicated than if using traditional roof felt.
Next you are ready to install the metal roof. As a first line of defense against water damage it is important that the metal roof overlap be implemented correctly.
