Installing cedar shingles on a curved roof. The first course of cedar shingles should be a double course ie two layers of shingles. Step 8 the complete shingle roof. Use the same gauge as the shingles at the ridge to give a more uniform appearance. Spend some time selecting the best face of the shingles and then nail a double starter course.
Make sure to put the thick end at the top on only the bottom row. Start at the bottom of the roof and lay sheets of the paper securing with staples every 6 inches or so.
This means ridges should be cut when they meet the central point. Overlap every shingle by at least an inch and a half from where the edge of the roof is.
