This shortens the effective life of the shingles and can adversely affect the roof sheathing. A wet installation can also cause a new roof to fail. Safety is always a primary consideration for roofers and roofing in the rain requires caution. A roof repair or even replacement can be done when it is raining. Roof replacement is expensive. Doing so goes against the building codes in most communities and the shingles won t adhere.

Shingles may not properly adhere to wet surfaces. Shingles will not stick to a wet roof. If the roof does get wet wait until the roof is entirely dry to begin or resume work. If the risk of rain is too great they ll likely tarp the roof to keep it safe and dry and return to the job when the weather conditions are better.

Shingles and roofing materials may not adhere properly to slick surfaces with high humidity. You might be surprised to find that the answer is yes. Roofing felt applied over a wet roof deck or shingles applied over wet roofing felt traps a layer of moisture within the roof. You risk ruining the integrity of your new roof.

Newly installed roofing materials need to be 100 dry in order to seal properly. Up on the roof watch out for wet or wrinkled decks that said pros say a new roof should never be installed over wet wood or a wrinkled barrier.
